The 280 GSM jersey fabric is knit from a blend of recycled cotton recovered during the yarn-spinning process, offcuts from Double Heavyweight T-shirts, and premium extra-long staple cotton. Knit at low tension and slow speed, the fabric develops a soft, resilient hand feel with a rich slubby texture throughout. Every step of production takes place in Japan.
This textured surface interacts beautifully with natural dyes, as subtle variations within the fabric absorb color at different rates, creating exceptional depth and character. Each garment is hand-dyed in Amami, a chain of islands in southern Japan known for its centuries-old dyeing traditions.
The Sharinbai tree, native to Amami, has long played a central role in the region’s dyeing culture. Its wood produces a warm, rosy natural dye, applied by skilled artisans using techniques passed down through generations. The process is completed with dorozome, Amami’s renowned mud-dyeing method. By immersing the fabric in iron-rich mud, natural minerals penetrate the fibers and deepen the color in a way that can only be achieved through this traditional technique.
