This piece is a reproduction of the classic Levi’s® Menlo Cossack leather jacket worn by Albert Einstein. The original jacket was purchased around 1935, shortly after Einstein moved to the United States and began the process of becoming a citizen. Known for his minimalist wardrobe, Einstein favored simplicity - socks were unnecessary, long hair required little upkeep, and this jacket became his solution to outerwear for years.
On July 13, 2016, Levi Strauss & Co. placed the winning bid for the original jacket at Christie’s Auction House in London. According to Christie’s, beyond visible signs of wear, the jacket carried a faint scent. Einstein was a relentless pipe smoker, and even 60 years after his death, the jacket still retained the sweet aroma of pipe tobacco.
Every element of this new Einstein jacket mirrors the original, complete with a subtle, tongue-in-cheek twist.
